THE ACTIVITY TOOK PLACE IN SAN RAFAEL, MENDOZA, WHERE THEY ATTENDED INTERNATIONAL SPECIALIST INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY AND THE CNEA.

Between 20 and 24 May, the first national workshop on post-remediation
monitoring sites legacy uranium mining took place in Mendoza. The meeting,
which was held at the Convention and Exhibition Center in the city of San
Rafael was attended by leading specialists of the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA) that trained personnel CNEA involved in environmental
management activities.
The training enabled participants to exchange experiences, update knowledge
and receive recommendations on good environmental control practices in the
post-remediation of uranium mining sites developed stage.
As part of the course, the participants and international experts visited
the San Rafael Mining Manufacturing Complex for detailed projects and works
that CNEA is developing there, under the management of environmental
liabilities generated by the activities miner factory workers.
As part of its environmental policy, the CNEA, through the Environmental
Restoration Project of Uranium Mining (PRAMU) works in environmental
remediation locations where activities of uranium mining were developed, as
dictated by Law No. Regime ° 25018 Radioactive Waste Management (1998).
To ensure the protection of the environment and of present and future
generations, the CNEA has a presence in 6 provinces -Mendoza, Córdoba, San
Luis, La Rioja, Salta and Chubut- which performs extensive characterization
and environmental control in places where there was activity related to
uranium mining. It also performs engineering remediation of environmental
liabilities according to the characteristics of each site and post closure
monitoring conducted in the Malargüe site.
