[English-Español] SALUD MANTUVO TELECONFERENCIA CON PROVINCIAS DEL SUR PARA FORTALECER PREVENCIÓN DEL HANTAVIRUS
| Health teleconference held southern provinces to strengthen the prevention of hantavirus Faced with increasing rodents in certain areas of Patagonia product colihue flowering of sugarcane, the Government Department of Health and jurisdictions strengthen disease prevention, especially in areas affected by this phenomenon. Wednesday November 20, 2019 From the outbreak in the town of Epuyén province of Chubut, last summer, Secretary of Government of National Health has intensified their coordination and prevention of hantavirus disease. To this end he summoned medical teams Chubut, Neuquen and Rio Black to take part in a conference call to unify criteria and actions against possible cases. To this end, the undersecretary of Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases and vaccine, Miriam Burgos, stressed that "it is important to maintain a fluid communication with the affected jurisdictions, to know what is required and how they are working" in that sense, the official he stressed that "the success of Epuyén was due to the joint work of the different teams." Participated teleconference concerning the areas of epidemiology of zoonoses and Patagonian provinces mentioned, as well as members of hospital care teams from the towns of Bariloche, Bolson, Esquel and Villa Langostura, among others. Since June, the Government Secretariat has been working with the SINAGIR and National Parks on measures of care that should have people in relation to the "ratada" which is how to define the phenomenon of excessive increase in the number wild rodents due to natural causes such as masting of cane colihue -the main food of these animals-that generates that, the count too much food, rodents have up to three reproductive events in one year. Consequently, this natural phenomenon produce mass displacement of mice looking for land, water and food, even during the day, which can enter homes and barns to consume and contaminate food, feed and water sources. Even rodents can eat wiring water, electricity, telephone and vehicles causing serious problems in the affected population. This situation closeness to the population and possible contact of people with the urine, saliva and excreta of rodents increases the possibility of producing cases of hantavirus. In that sense, the national director of Epidemiology and Analysis of Health Situation, Patricia Angeleri, said "it is very important that against diseases like hantavirus we can agree on protocols of action, especially against the possibility of human transmission, and that selective contact respiratory isolation is an essential measure to reduce the impact of possible human transmission of the virus, "as it was recorded at the outbreak of Epuyén. For Angeleri, "actions as carried out by the provinces of Neuquén and Chubut are to highlight and replicate by the provinces involved," said the official. Hantavirus is a severe acute viral disease. Wild mice (mainly colilargos) are the reservoirs of the virus and transmit it to people by eliminating the virus in saliva, feces and urine. Despite certain of inter-human transmission history for some of these viruses, the highest form of contagion is environmental route, so it is important prevention through: • Avoid living with rodents and contact with their secretions. • Prevent rodents from entering or make nests in homes. • Plugging holes in doors, walls and pipes. • Perform cleaning (floors, walls, doors, tables, drawers and cupboards) with one part bleach nine water (leave 30 minutes then rinse). Moisten the floor before sweeping to keep down the dust. • Place and firewood orchards more than 30 mts. housing, cut grass and weeds to a radius of 30 meters. around the home. • Ventilate for at least 30 minutes before going into places that have been closed (houses, barns). Cover your mouth and nose with a mask before entering N95. • A camping do away with weeds and garbage dumps, do not sleep directly on the ground and consume drinking water. • If you are a live rodent Do not touch it and consult the municipality. • If you find a dead rodent: spray it with bleach along with everything that has been in contact and wait at least 30 minutes. Then pick it up using gloves and bury more than 30 cm. deep I or burn. Currently Argentina has until epidemiological week 40 a total of 92 confirmed cases of Hantavirus. Although cases are reported in both the central region and northwestern Argentina (NOA), the main focus is on the South, by the history of human transmission and the phenomenon of ratada that is affecting the surrounding geography Park Nahuel Huapi.
