Today August 15, we commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the architect Mario J. Buschiazzo, a key figure in the development of this Commission and the valuation and preservation of the Argentine and American historical and cultural heritage.

Today August 15, 2020, commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the architect Mario J. Buschiazzo and need our homage pay a key figure in the development of this Commission and deeply committed to assessing and preserving heritage historical and cultural Argentine and American.
Born in Buenos Aires on December 10, 1902 graduated as an architect in 1927 at the University of Buenos Aires and from the beginning his career showed a particular interest in history and culture, exerting teaching first at the Colegio Nacional Almirante Guillermo Brown Adrogué and continuing in various institutions addressing topics as broad as math, drawing, history of civilization and history of art. From 1928 he began to practice his profession as an architect designing and directing works in the private sector as well as public since joining the Ministry of Public Works of the Province of Buenos Aires and later to the General Directorate of Public Works of the Nation. But his interest in architectural heritage never waned and was the reason that in 1935 took up university teaching, gaining competitive years later the title of Professor of History of Architecture at the University of Buenos Aires.

In 1938 the Government entrusted the creation of the first catalog of national historic property, published by the newly established National Commission of Museums and Historical Sites, body which then Buschiazzo was incorporated into character Architect Appointed initiative of its first president, Dr . Ricardo Levene. He actively participated in the drafting of reports and articles in our newsletter on monuments and historical buildings, restoration and in international law. It was in this period and in the context of a process of revaluation of the national heritage that the architect entrusted to it its perhaps two most emblematic works: The restoration and reconstruction of buildings of the Cabildo in the City of Buenos Aires and the Historic House of Independence in San Miguel de Tucuman.

However its work was also extended to other goods including seventeen distinguished Jesuit Mission of San Ignacio in Misiones, the birthplace of Sarmiento in San Juan, Chapel of Purmamarca in Jujuy and Salta Cabildo.

Also noteworthy is its important academic research where the documentary rigor is reflected in various and numerous publications such as the restoration of the Cabildo of Buenos Aires conservation and restoration of monuments in America (1940), studies of colonial architecture in Latin America (1944) Cathedral of Cordoba (1941), the Cathedral of Buenos Aires (1943), the Church of the Pillar (1945), the Church of the Society of Córdoba (1942), the Jesuit Jesus Maria (1949), Art Nouveau Stay in Buenos Aires (1965). In 1946 he founded the Institute of American Art and Research Estéticas as a research and dissemination within the scope of the University of Buenos Aires that today bears his name honorably.
Death found him at his home in Adrogué where he died at the age of sixty-seven years August 15, 1970.

Hoy 15 de agosto de 2020, se conmemoran los cincuenta años del fallecimiento del arquitecto Mario J. Buschiazzo y es menester nuestro rendir homenaje a una figura clave en el desarrollo de esta Comisión y profundamente comprometida con la valoración y preservación del patrimonio histórico-cultural argentino y americano.
Nacido en Buenos Aires el 10 de diciembre de 1902 se graduó de arquitecto en 1927 en la Universidad de Buenos Aires y desde los inicios su carrera reveló un particular interés por la historia y la cultura, ejerciendo la docencia primero en el Colegio Nacional Almirante Guillermo Brown de Adrogué y continuando en diversas instituciones abordando temáticas tan amplias como matemáticas, dibujo, historia de la civilización e historia del arte. A partir de 1928 comenzó a ejercer su profesión de arquitecto proyectando y dirigiendo obras en el ámbito privado como así también público desde su incorporación al Ministerio de Obras Públicas de la Provincia de Buenos Aires y posteriormente a la Dirección General de Obras Públicas de la Nación. Pero su interés por el patrimonio arquitectónico nunca menguó y fue la razón por la que en 1935 retomó la docencia universitaria, ganando por concurso años más tarde la titularidad de la cátedra de Historia de la Arquitectura en la Universidad de Buenos Aires.

En 1938 el Gobierno Nacional le encomendó la creación del primer catálogo de bienes históricos nacionales, publicado por la flamante Comisión Nacional de Museos y Lugares Históricos, organismo al que luego Buschiazzo fue incorporado en carácter de Arquitecto Adscripto por iniciativa de su primer presidente, el Dr. Ricardo Levene. Participó activamente en la redacción de informes y artículos en nuestro Boletín sobre monumentos y edificios históricos, obras de restauración y en materia de legislación internacional. Fue en este período y en el marco de un proceso de revalorización del patrimonio histórico nacional que al arquitecto le fueron encomendadas sus quizás dos obras más emblemáticas: La restauración y reconstrucción de los edificios del Cabildo en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y la Casa Histórica de la Independencia en San Miguel de Tucumán.

No obstante su labor también se extendió a otros diecisiete bienes distinguiéndose entre ellos la Misión Jesuítica de San Ignacio en Misiones, la casa natal de Sarmiento en San Juan, la capilla de Purmamarca en Jujuy y el Cabildo de Salta.

Cabe destacar también su importante trabajo de investigación académica donde el rigor documental se refleja en diversas y numerosas publicaciones como La restauración del Cabildo de Buenos Aires- conservación y restauración de monumentos en América (1940), Estudios de arquitectura colonial en Hispanoamérica (1944), La Catedral de Córdoba (1941), La Catedral de Buenos Aires (1943), La Iglesia del Pilar (1945), La Iglesia de la Compañía de Córdoba (1942), La Estancia Jesuítica de Jesús María (1949), El Art Nouveau en Buenos Aires (1965). En 1946 fundó el Instituto de Arte Americano e Investigaciones Estéticas como un centro de investigación y divulgación dentro del ámbito de la Universidad de Buenos Aires que hoy lleva honrosamente su nombre.
La muerte lo halló en su casa de Adrogué donde falleció a la edad de sesenta y siete años el 15 de agosto de 1970.
