ADVANCING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR LOW EMISSIONS GREENHOUSE GASES
To achieve consensus in its construction, a two days with an approach to
agriculture, forestry and other land use sector performed. Published on
Wednesday April 24, 2019. The Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable
Development initiated this morning the first workshop for the development
of a national strategy with low emissions of greenhouse gases long term.
The meeting will continue tomorrow, was held in conjunction with the
Ministry of Agro Industry Office, the Institute of National Agricultural
Technology Institute (INTA) and Avina Foundation. "Our goal in these two
days is to generate inputs to start developing a strategy for long-term low
carbon" he said at the opening Secretary of Climate Change and Sustainable
Development Area National Environment, Carlos Gentile. "We have a history
of work jointly with other ministries through our experience in the
National Office for Climate Change. This time, we will begin this process
with the Ministry of Agro-industry to achieve the formulation of this
strategy in the agriculture, forestry and other land use sector, "he added.
The workshop aims to build local capacity modeling, strengthen dialogue
between decision-makers and the scientific-academic and provide technical
inputs for the formulation of low national strategy on emissions in the
mentioned 2050. industry also is part of the work of the National Office
for climate change, set up by President Mauricio Macri to form a harmonious
strategy among the ministries involved with climate change that will take
advantage of opportunities, limit the negative impacts and position
Argentina as a proactive country in this area. The event is part of the
efforts that our country is making to comply with the Paris Agreement,
which invites supporters to increase their efforts to formulate national
development strategies with low emissions of greenhouse gases long term. In
addition, we assume that these long-term visions must be based on solid
data and models, as well as contributions made by different actors in
society who play a key role to achieve them. In this sense, Gentile said
the conference facilitates dialogue "in order to initiate the necessary
studies to discuss internally what should be the strategy of low emission
development for our country to 2050". It is recalled that the Paris
Agreement calls for submitting a national contribution and review every 5
years. Argentina made its first contribution in 2015 and revised in 2016,
committing an absolute goal of not issue more than 483 million tons by
2030. Also participating in the opening of the meeting: Deputy Secretary of
Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Luis Urriza; Sustainable Productions
Director of the Secretariat, Nicholas Lucas; and the National Director of
INTA, Hector Espina.
