BERGMAN REPRESENTS ARGENTINA IN MEETING ON CLIMATE CHANGE IN GERMANY

Government Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of the
Nation, Rabbi Sergio Bergman, participates in the meeting on Climate
Dialogue Petersberg 2019, in Berlin, where more than 35 countries meet to
prepare for the World Conference on Climate Change to be held in Santiago
de Chile (COP 25) in December 2019.
The 10th Climate Dialogue Petersberg "Fulfilling the promise of Paris" is
organized by the Ministry of Environment of Germany jointly with the
Government of the Republic of Chile and is held on 13 and 14 May. There
will discuss how promote climate protection, check the rising global
climate objectives and achieve before climate neutrality. also in this
year, the most important topic of discussion will be the price of CO2,
where participants discussed the Swiss model. Switzerland applies since
2008 a tax on CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and its citizens reimburses a
portion of their income through contributions to health insurance.
The meeting was opened by the Minister of Environment of Chile, Carolina
Schmidt and the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation
and Nuclear Safety of Germany, Svenja Schulze who said: "Since its first
meeting, the Climate Dialogue Petersberg has helped to build trust and
create a space for constructive discussion. Dialogue meetings have always
helped prepare steps and key decisions ". For the priority theme of the
day, the German minister said: "I want to make it very clear that our goal
is not that the State derives a gain carbon price. Our only goal is to
introduce a market-based instrument that will make CO2 emissions and reward
more expensive non-generating emissions. "
For his part, Bergman Secretary met with President of Germany, Frank Walter
Steinmeier, and also participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the
Coalition of High Ambition, which took place on Sunday, in which they
discussed the transition from coal and energy, among other priorities for
this year.
