IN MAY FLEW 223,000 PASSENGERS MORE THAN LAST YEAR, IT WAS THE HIGHEST MONTHLY GROWTH IN HISTORY
Tuesday June 4, 2019
With a 22% increase over last year was the largest annual rise in history.
Compared with 2015, growth is almost 70%: in 4 years in the same month flew
over half a million passengers; Mendoza, Salta and Neuquen reached record
highs in passenger cabotage
Under the plan the Revolution of the aircraft, the Argentine commercial
aviation sector continues to grow. According to statistics prepared by the
Ministry of Transport, through the National Civil Aviation Administration
(ANAC) and from the Integrated Aviation System (ACIS), during the month of
May 2019 they traveled 1.222000 passengers on commercial flights cabotage,
22% from the same month last year when they flew 999000.
This increase in passenger 223000 represents the maximum annual variation
registered in the country. Compared with May 2015, the growth is 69%: half
a million people have joined fly.
The increase took place despite the arrest of aeronautical unions on 29
May, which meant a decline in growth of almost 4 percentage points of the
total (about 40 thousand affected passengers) of domestic passengers and 3
points for international flights. Only Flybondi, JetSMART (Route El Palomar
- Santiago) and American Airlines operated that day.
On the other hand, it is the first time since 2001 more people traveling in
May than in April, marking a shift in seasonality of domestic flights,
where May and June represented the strongest in the offseason. This was
possible thanks to the tariff flexibility which enables to optimize routes,
improving load factors. Proof of this, domestic flights have flown to 78%
capacity in May, a figure that compares with 69% in the same month of 2018.
Mendoza, Salta and Neuquen, with historical peaks in passenger cabotajeLos
airports in Mendoza, Salta and Neuquen exceeded last record highs of
domestic passengers: 167,000 passengers used the airport in Mendoza
capital, which continues to exceed its maximum month (previous record of
April 2019); more than 109,000 did so Salta, whose previous record was
October 2018 and Neuquén airport, where circulated 104,000 people,
surpassing the previous high for July 2017 (peak season winter) at 7% and
being, in addition, the first time exceeded the barrier of 100 thousand in
one month.
Analyzing the main airport variations against May 2018 in cabotage
passengers was an increase of 68% for El Palomar, which topped the list of
growth with its current 95 thousand passengers. In Salta, with 109,000
passengers, the increase was 67% and in Ezeiza, 63% were in cabotage
-volaron more than 91 thousand people.
30% more people flying between cities of the Interior, bypassing Buenos
AiresMás of 129 thousand people were able to travel within the country
directly, without having to connect through the airports of Greater Buenos
Aires (Aeroparque, Ezeiza, The Dovecote). This figure is 30% to the same
month of 2018.
In the YTD for the first quarter were more than 750 thousand people who
did. In the same period of 2015, this figure did not exceed 294 thousand
people, marking a growth of connectivity in the order of 155%.
Additionally, the two routes with more passengers in May have been the
connecting Cordoba province Salta and Neuquén (12 and 11 thousand
passengers and increases of 73 and 55% against May 2018, respectively).
At the international level, in May a total of 1.12 million passengers, a
figure that is 7% lower than the same month of 2018 was reached even 22%
higher than that recorded in May 2015. In terms of connectivity, about 133
thousand passengers connected with the outside directly without passing
through Buenos Aires. So far 2019, this figure is over 887,000 people,
while in the first quarter of 2015, the value was below 402,000, marking an
increase of 121%.
So far this year, passengers flying within the country outperformed
international for the first time in two décadasLos numbers the first five
months of the year show that the cumulative domestic passengers has already
surpassed that on international flights (6 40 against 6.37 million
passengers for the period from January to May). 2019 will be the first to
make this happen, after more than 20 years: from 1999 onwards, passengers
on international flights exceeded continuously those in local destinations,
the maximum difference in 2011, when the difference between the two
segments was nearly 5 million passengers, a total of 17.9 million.
The development of commercial aviation growth promoted by the Ministry of
Transport of the Nation with the plan "The Revolution of the aircraft"
includes modernization of infrastructure at airports across the country,
incorporating new technology air navigation, new equipment for logistics
operation and other complementary works to improve civil aviation. In
total, 25 billion pesos will be invested for up to 2019; and works in 20
airports were completed and today works at the airports of Ezeiza,
Aeroparque, Iguazú, Comodoro Rivadavia, Bariloche, San Fernando, Formosa,
Salta, Jujuy and Mar del Plata.
