THE BROAD ARGENTINA BEEF EXPORTS TO CHINA

Argentina will increase the sales of beef to the Chinese market after
authorities in that country put the new certificate that enables entry of
chilled cuts with bone in force, the Ministry of Agro-Industry's Office
reported. The announcement will expand exports, previously only allowed for
frozen boneless meat, in the context of the growing trade relations between
the two countries, including the recent agreement for trade facilitation of
agro-industrial products and opening up the Chinese market for the entry of
meat pork. In late April, also Giant Asian Customs approved the
authorization of 22 establishments Argentine exporters of beef and poultry,
which will contribute significantly to increase exports of meat products.
The Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will streamline
and predictability to future approvals of establishments interested in
exporting, which reaches bovine, poultry, sheep and pig meat. To April,
President Mauricio Macri announced that for the first time in history,
Argentina will export pork to China, an unprecedented opportunity for
domestic producers who can multiply the volume of their exports and create
conditions to increase employment in the sector. In recent meetings between
officials of both countries, Chinese officials expressed confidence in the
safety control system and quality as the National Health Service and Food
Quality (Senasa) takes on agribusiness products exported by Argentina. The
government there said that Argentina is the country that most markets have
opened in recent years, without ever recorded detections or rejections in
shipments. Last year, exports to China reached more than 3480 million, of
which about 90 percent are products from agribusiness, in the January-April
period, exports of fresh beef chilled and frozen rose 38.6 percent year on
year compared to 2018, exceeding the 136 000 tonnes. China only sales
recorded more than 94 000 tonnes during the period, equivalent to an
increase of 90.7 percent over the same quarter last year. The country
reduced import tariffs of nearly 400 agro-industrial products, among which
are dairy, bakery pre-mixes, sweet foods such as cookies, breakfast cereals
and canned fruits; frozen seafood products and sugary drinks. In addition,
Argentina finalized the first shipments of cherries and cranberries, among
other products they began to be sold to China. Government Secretary of
Agribusiness of the Nation, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, remarked that "the
flesh again, our product emblem, gives us good signs for our economy by
increasing export opportunities to the main market in the world".
