"Hay que aprender a convivir con el error. La mente es muy importante en la carrera de un deportista, es hasta más importante que lo físico y hasta más importante que el talento. Yo siempre digo que en toda mi carrera deportiva fue a base de lo mental, sufrí muchísimas lesiones y hasta pensar en abandonar en más de una oportunidad, pero fui fuerte y siempre seguí", les remarcó Gallardo a los pibes. Y prosiguió: "No recuerdo haber jugado durante mi carrera profesional al cien por ciento de mis posibilidades. No tuve un físico privilegiado, pero mi fortaleza mental me dio una enorme capacidad para revertir situaciones y salir delante de momentos difíciles". Además, recordó su experiencia en los Juegos Olímpicos de Atlanta 1996. "Obtuvimos la medalla de plata pero no fuimos tan reconocidos porque vivimos en un país muy exitista y más en un deporte como el fútbol, donde pareciera que si no sos campeón no sirve para nada. Pero tengo esa medalla bien guardada y me llena de satisfacción, porque fue algo representativo para mí y para el deporte argentino", recordó quien vistió la camiseta albiceleste en 46 ocasiones (14 goles). "Hay que hacer lo que uno ama, como primer paso, siempre con ilusiones porque el camino no es fácil. Yo salía desde Merlo y viajaba dos horas para llegar a River. Entrenaba, comía en el viaje y estudiaba. Pero eso me hizo también valorar lo conseguido, porque fui persiguiendo sueños", confesó.
