El Consejo de World Rugby aprobó el calendario temporal 2020, tras definirse este jueves el ajuste temporario a la Regla 9 para permitir la liberación de jugadores internacionales de cara a la ventana que se disputará a fines de este año. Así, los los jugadores que sean convocados a Los Pumas y que participan en el rugby europeo, podrán participar del Rugby Championship, que todavía no anunció su programación oficial.
"En cuanto a la sede del Rugby Championship y el fixture, seguimos trabajando alineados junto a nuestros pares de Sanzaar, para tomar la mejor decisión posible que beneficie a uniones, jugadores, broadcasters y stakeholders involucrados", destacó Fernando Rizzi, secretario de la Unión Argentina de Rugby.
La World Rugby ya anunció que el Championship se realizará entre el 7 de noviembre y segundo fin de semana de diciembre y la sede posible es Nueva Zelanda, con las medidas sanitarias para poder llevar adelante los requerimientos gubernamentales de aislamiento previo a la competencia. Los Pumas participarían con el equipo local, Australia y Sudáfrica.
"Queremos resaltar que esta decisión es un avance muy importante en pos de una recuperación global, producto de esta pandemia que afectó a todo el planeta. Estamos convencidos de que estos compromisos internacionales colaborarán para una rápida recuperación del deporte a nivel mundial", enfatizó Marcelo Rodríguez, presidente de la Unión Argentina de Rugby.
