ARGENTINA INCREASED IN OVERWEIGHT, OBESITY, DIABETES AND SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE

The Ministry of Health and the Government of INDEC released the data of the
4th National Risk Factor Survey 2018, an X-ray of the health of the adult
population Argentina confirming the progress of overweight and obesity.
Snuff consumption, however, continues to decline. First objective
measurements (biochemical and anthropometric) were added. Published on
Monday April 15, 2019. The 61.6% of Argentines are overweight, in a
proportion of 36.2% of overweight and 25.4% obese, according to the 4th
National Survey Risk factors (NSRF) by the Government Department of Health
and the INDEC, and presented today by its highest authorities, to
representatives of PAHO, UNICEF, FAO, scientific societies, and members of
the Ombudsman's Office and universities . The data confirm the progress of
the epidemic, considering that obesity has now reached a quarter of the
population has increased since 2005 by almost 11 percentage points since
the first survey this indicator fearlessness that 14.6% of the population
surveyed recorded some degree of obesity. "The results we are seeing
confirm all our suspicions, overweight and obesity far from being a problem
that is stopping, is a problem that is accelerating," said Government
Secretary of Health, Adolfo Rubinstein during the presentation of the
prioritized data from the 4th ENFR that monitors overweight and obesity,
physical inactivity, consumption of snuff and unhealthy behaviors in
feeding Argentines, some of the main causes of chronic non-communicable
diseases account for 60% of deaths globally. Rubinstein said
that "collaborative work with the INDEC is a huge step with other surveys
and studies we are doing allows us to have a line of very rigorous and
reliable basis for knowing where to continue with the implementation of
public policies and to design the most effective strategies to at least be
able to stop the obesity epidemic, and to focus especially childhood
obesity is a public health problem that most threatens the future of
Argentines in terms of health complications, but that compromise social
development and economic of Argentina, said the official. Meanwhile, the
head of the INDEC, Jorge Todesca, also referred to the importance of
coordinated work and stressed: "The collaboration between the Government
Department of Health and the INDEC on such an important issue and I
congratulate the team that has made an effort large and intense "to carry
out this survey. To put into context the importance of this tool, the
National Director of Health Promotion and Control of Chronic
Noncommunicable Diseases, Veronica Schoj, explained that "although chronic
non-communicable diseases cause 60% of deaths in the world, in our country
this figure rises to 73.4%, "while adding that" we must keep in mind that 3
of 4 deaths from these diseases are preventable, "so that the survey
provides reliable, valid and timely information to monitor the evolution of
these diseases. The 4th ENFR 2018 reached 49,170 homes in all jurisdictions
country and was composed of three phases or steps that include survey by
self-report and, first, performing physical measurements and biochemical
measurements, such as glucose and cholesterol . The brand survey also
showed that nearly 65% of people remains low physical activity and only
6% of the population consumes at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables
per day as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Specifically, in these two items, the trend shows that low physical
activity showed an increase of almost 10%, from 54.7% (2013) to 64.9% in
(2018). 4.9% (2013) to 6.0% (2018): while as regards consumption of fruits
and vegetables a statistically significant compared to the previous edition
changes will be reflected. Amid this epidemiological scenario, the positive
development is linked to the consumption of snuff which fell to 22.2%,
which means a drop of 7.5% compared to the data from the first survey in
2005 where consumption snuff amounted to 29.7% of the surveyed population.
The comparative analysis shows that the trend was sustained with a decrease
of 4.9% compared to 2009 and 2.9% in 2013. It also decreased exposure to
snuff smoke outside in the home, which in 2018 stood at 25 , 1%, while the
same item was 33.9% in 2009 and 27.6% in 2013. Meanwhile, for the first
time the prevalence of electronic cigarette throwing relieved that 1.1% of
the population he said consumption. The indicator using salt after cooking
or sitting at the table (always / almost always) showed a slight decrease
compared to 2013, reaching 16.4%, while in the third survey was 17.3%.
physical and biochemical measurements, the novelty of the 4th ENFR For this
latest edition of ENFR, first performing physical measurements where blood
pressure and anthropometric parameters were relieved as weight, height and
waist circumference was included, in addition biochemical determinations as
measuring blood glucose and fasting total cholesterol. The results showed
that 40.6% of the general population had high blood pressure (greater than
or equal to 140/90 mmHg); that 8.4% of the reference population showed high
blood glucose (≥110 mg / dl) in the stage of biochemical measurements of
the survey, while 30.7% of the individuals that were performed analysis
recorded high (greater than or equal to 200 mg / dl) cholesterol. Regarding
the body weight, according to calculate body mass index by physical
measurements, it showed that 66.1% of individuals were overweight (obese
overweight +), being that 3 out of 10 individuals recorded overweight, and
in other 3 out of 10 it showed obesity. Methodology The National Survey of
Risk Factors (NSRF) is part of System Surveillance Noncommunicable Diseases
(NCDs) and the Integrated System of Household Surveys (ISHS). Provides
valid, reliable and timely information on risk factors (such as consumption
of snuff, alcohol, diet, physical activity, etc.), processes of care in the
health system and major NCDs in Argentina population (hypertension,
diabetes, obesity and others) .It was done previously in 2005, 2009 and
2013. the 4th ENFR 2018, it consisted of three phases or steps, framing
itself in the standardized sTEPS World Health Organization design. Step 1
consisted by self-report survey, with a very similar to the previous
editions of the ENFR core questionnaire. Step 2 included making physical
measurements in which blood pressure and anthropometric parameters were
relieved as weight, height and waist circumference. digital blood pressure
monitor, measuring rod, portable scale and tape measure: the corresponding
instrumental in accordance with international recommendations was used for
each. Finally, step 3 biochemical determinations consisted of performing
measurements of blood glucose and fasting total cholesterol. Entire field
operation was conducted under the overall coordination of the INDEC and the
Provincial Directorates of Statistics. The phases of physical and
biochemical measurements were performed by personnel hired by the Ministry
of Health and Social Development through the National University Tres de
Febrero (UNTREF) through national competitive bidding. The sample design
was probabilistic and multistage ENFR and yielded representative
information at national and provincial level of the population aged 18 and
over living in urban localities of 5,000 or more inhabitants for step 1. In
the case of the physical and biochemical measurements, the results are
representative nationwide. The sample size reached 49,170 homes in all
jurisdictions in the country for the implementation of the first part of
the questionnaire or step 1. Step 2 A subsample was performed with 75% of
such housing and, for step 3 He maintained that subsample but restricted to
the towns of 150,000 inhabitants or more. The amount of occupied dwellings
was 42,454. The response rate of households, estimated on these homes, was
73.4%. The total number of individuals who responded to Step 1 was 29,224,
yielding a response rate of 93% compared to respondents households. For
step 2, the total response was 16,577, with a response rate of 76.3% on the
respondents of step 1 of the subsample; for step 3 and 5331 answers a
response rate of 75.6% on respondents step 2 of the locations of 150,000
and more were obtained. For more information, consult the publication on
