MOOC: A LEARNING SPACE THAT STRENGTHENS

The first round ended with more than 30,000 registrants from 59 countries.
Now, INTA and SupAgro French Institute announced the second edition in
Spanish specializing in the study of agroecology international course.
Thursday May 23, 2019
The first edition of MOOC (massive open course line within the meaning of
the acronym) on agroecology in Spanish closed more than 30,000 participants
from 59 countries. "We had high expectations, but actually pleasantly
surprised," said Roberto Cittadini, INTA researcher and one of the
promoters of this learning space.
"When we started planning the course, we thought we have registered 5000
was possible and we considered a success. However, in the early days of the
announcement of the training we had more than 10,000 registered "recalled
Cittadini who said:" Over the six weeks of the year, 13,541 people
participated actively. "
Among the countries with the largest share in the previous edition are
Argentina with 73.9%, Colombia 12.9%, Mexico 7.2%, 3.4% Uruguay and Chile
2.3%, among others. "This shows the demand for education and training
spaces that exist on these issues throughout Latin America," said INTA
specialist.
According to Stéphane de Tourdonnet, research professor at SupAgro and one
of the creators of MOOC Agroecology in 2015, "the success of the course in
Argentina is due mainly to the team of scientists, educators and multimedia
INTA who worked with us to adapt the contents of the MOOC the Spanish ".
"Thanks to this contribution, the course was enriched, new scientific
content is created, shared their experience and new case studies were
constructed," he said of Tourdonnet adding: "Working with the Argentine
team was a great pleasure and we thank them for their scientific,
educational and human "qualities.
In this regard, Christelle Foulquier, responsible for coordinating the
adaptation of content in Spanish with the Argentine team, said that "the
first session in Spanish of course was a great success because it attracted
more than 30,000 people registered, very active in forums and interesting
exchanges during the living. "
"We've never had so many people registered MOOC sessions in French and
English," said Foulquier who said: "We are very happy that this success is
happening on the continent that gave birth agroecology".
Based on the success of the course and the demand for information on
ecological processes to reduce the use of external inputs and improve
production, biodiversity and environmental quality, INTA and the National
Institute for Higher Education in Agricultural Sciences of Montpellier
(SupAgro) of France announced the second edition in Spanish specializing in
the study of agroecology international course.
Second edition
After editions in French and English, INTA adapted content for
Spanish-speaking countries. In an intense exchange process that was carried
out for more than a year with French specialists and Argentina, new
materials and activities developed regional perspective.
"The MOOC is a training proposal that combines the theoretical
contributions made by experts, constructed from the experiences of students
and the collective sharing knowledge," Ana Sonsino, Head of Education and
ICT (PROCADIS) of the said INTA, who said: "from the methodological
approach, is committed to the horizontal circulation of knowledge to create
a learning community that increases, problematize and enriches the body of
knowledge on the subject."
For editing in Spanish, Sonsino stressed that content and case studies were
drawn from experiences in agriculture transition taking place in Argentina,
Brazil and Colombia. Also, "for the second edition, it will deepen examples
of agroecological projects developed in other countries in the region," he
said.
The course provides knowledge about the emergence of agroecology in a
historical and geographical context, the various dimensions that comprise
it (science, social movements, practices) and practices that promotes the
environment.
In addition to sharing scientific principles underlying the agroecological
proposal in different types of production systems, the course shared case
studies from Europe and Latin America, particularly in Argentina. "We
provided information showing that agroecology is an option to maintain or
increase production levels, eliminating the negative impacts on the
environment and improved biodiversity and fertility of agricultural
establishments involved," said Cittadini.
Through a participatory dynamic, students can understand the different
approaches of agroecology, from the perspective of agronomy, ecology and
human sciences as well as the impact that its implementation in
agricultural systems.
For Sonsino, it was the first experience in MOOC format, made in the
PROCADIS with the challenge of implementing a new platform. "This gives us
the opportunity to generate new proposals for massive training, which is
already working," he said.
about PROCADIS
PROCADIS is an educational project that aims to design and implement
various strategies to bring INTA knowledge of the community, promoting
development, innovation and knowledge transfer.
The distance education project has INTA campus.inta.gob.ar available from a
catalog of standard courses aimed at producers, technicians, professionals
and the wider community platform.
Moreover, in coordination with the National Institute of Technological
Education (INET) and the Ministry of Agro Industry Office, proposals aimed
at teachers of agro-technical schools, available on the platform focused
ETP develop. Since 2018, about 4,000 teachers around the country were
formed.
In addition, virtual proposals in coordination with SENASA, Argentine
Institute of Standardization and Certification (IRAM), National
Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) of various countries in the region,
universities and organizations in the sector, among others are promoted.
