ENVIRONMENT SIGNED AN AGREEMENT TO STRENGTHEN CONSERVATION ACTIONS WHALES

Sustainable Development of the Nation signed an agreement to strengthen the
work in partnership with the Whale Conservation Institute (ICB) for the
protection of marine biodiversity. The aim is to coordinate actions
relating to the conservation and sustainable use, in particular whales ..
At the signing ceremony held were present: Diego Moreno, Secretary of
Natural Resources Environmental Policy; Javier García Espil, national
director of environmental management of water and aquatic ecosystems; and
Diego Taboada, president of the ICB. The Whale Conservation Institute works
on research of southern right whales, which has been essential for the
development of management plans and conservation of the species in the long
term. He is a member of the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian
Sea and is actively involved in supporting projects recycling fishing nets.
It is clear that the discard fishing nets are one of the bulkier components
within marine debris and that microplastics greatest contribution to the
seas made, one of the residues with the greatest impact on biodiversity.
For this reason it is important to reduce its presence in the seas and to
facilitate their reuse by industry. The initiative involves a collective
effort to provide benefits for fishing companies to marine biodiversity and
society as a whole, represent a concrete step forward towards sustainable
fisheries, with a growing commitment to biodiversity conservation Marine.
It is clear that the ICB has an active participation in the meetings of the
International Whaling Commission, with clear positions in favor of the
conservation of these animals and the protection of ocean ecosystems. He
also participated with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable
Development in the process of creating marine protected areas in our
territory, providing scientific information on the areas of greatest
importance for the conservation of whales and marine biodiversity, through
