ETCHEVEHERE AT G20: "ARGENTINA HAS A STRONG COMMITMENT TO MULTILATERALISM AND COOPERATION FOR SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCTION"

The statement was made during the meeting of G20 agriculture ministers in
Niigata, Japan; as a member of the Troika, Secretary chaired a working
session on "agrifood value chains".

Government Secretary of Agribusiness of the Nation, Luis Miguel
Etchevehere, ended Sunday his participation in the Meeting of Ministers of
Agriculture G20 in Niigata, Japan with a presentation at the last plenary
session that recalled the commitment that Argentina currently has against
sustainable food production.
"Since the beginning of the administration of President Macri, assume the
objective of reintegrating intelligently to Argentina in the world.
Therefore reaffirm our commitment to multilateralism and cooperation to
find solutions to global challenges," said the head of agribusiness
portfolio. He added that "food security, improving nutrition and promoting
sustainable agriculture is everyone's responsibility, and in that sense,
Argentina is a reliable place to coordinate actions and join forces
partner."
In addition, Etchevehere presided as part of the Troika a working session
on "agrifood value chains" that was attended by ministers of Germany,
France, Italy, India, Chile, Senegal, the Netherlands and Mexico, and
international organizations such as the WTO WFP and IFPRI.
"Value chains contribute to strengthening food security and become more
efficient in the use of our resources," said Etchevehere. In turn, he
said "we have a very strong implication in transparency, competitiveness,
employment generation and income of producers".
At the close of the event, the secretary participated in press conference
by the Troika countries, Argentina, Japan and Saudi Arabia next president
of the G20. "I welcome the continuation of these ministerial meetings as a
forum for discussion and an opportunity to find solutions to the problems
of producers in the world. The collaboration and continuous exchange will
allow teamwork and good results towards sustainable food production"
Etchevehere said.
The G20 is the leader of the world's leading economies, which in the case
of agriculture accounts for 60% of all agricultural land and approximately
80% of world trade in food products forum.
G20En agreements reached during the G20, Etchevehere together with the
ministers of Agriculture of Brazil, Tereza Cristina Correa; Canada, Marie
Claude Bibeau, and the United States, Sonny Perdue, pledged to increase
work with third countries, and continue to support comprehensive approaches
to handling situations of low presence of biotech crops (LLP), which are
practical, science-based, predictable and transparent. In this regard,
these efforts include the use of science-based international guidelines.
On the other hand, Secretary of Government of Agribusiness and their
counterparts in Brazil, the United States, Canada and Mexico, as leaders of
the Americas in food production, agreed on a joint position to work on
issues of common interest, such as security global food, agricultural trade
and the rules of global regulations based on science.
The five countries recognize that science and innovation in agriculture
contribute to improving productivity, the development of producers and the
need to be prepared to meet the growing global demand for food.
