ARGENTINA AND COSTA RICA TOGETHER FOR DECARBONIZATION
Thursday June 27, 2019
Government Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of the
Nation, Rabbi Sergio Bergman, participated in the presentation of the Plan
of Costa Rica of Decarbonisation 2050: a commitment to Agenda 2030 and the
Paris Agreement. The meeting was held at the Embassy of that country and
was attended by Costa Rican ambassador, Gioconda Ubeda Rivera.
The plan is based on 10 lines that trace routes change key to reverse the
growth of emissions of greenhouse gases areas and seeks to promote the
modernization and revitalization of the economy under a vision of green
growth.
In that sense, Bergman toured management lead agency: "We created a
National Office for Climate Change, we have presented sectoral mitigation
plans, among other initiatives, and although we recognize that there is
little work done, we know we have not reversed situation, but we agreed
public policies that place us as a serious and predictable country. That
is, we no longer have aspirational statements, but binding indicators ". In
addition, Bergman explained: "When President Mauricio Macri assumed,
installed the concept of zero poverty, which is the goal of Sustainable
Development, 1 ie, end poverty, this realizes the commitment to frame the
country on the Agenda 2030 is a state policy long-term sustainability
States that sign. "
Finally, Bergman highlighted the work being carried out in Latin
America: "There are very good perfomance in the decision of Latin American
countries to agree, even with our differences, international forums bring a
voice and a Latin American paper , understanding the importance of this
region as a sink for carbon dioxide, and we can do a great global
contribution "
Costa Rica has proposed to lay the foundations of the new century Costa
Rican economy by creating a positive, innovative and inspiring vision of
the future. An economy that responds to changes in the global context,
moving towards a green economy that promotes sustainable use and
exploitation of natural resources. Although the transition to a low
emission economy requires a profound transformation, it is noted that Costa
Rica has made significant progress in previous decades, including an
electricity network in more than 95% emission-free and very low rates of
deforestation coverage forest that exceeds 52% of the territory.
However, the challenges are great and require transformational efforts such
as the development and implementation of one of the first strategies
worldwide decarbonization short and long term. Costa Rica seeks to inspire
actors at all levels to go beyond "the usual" and be part of this positive
transformation, being the best version of yourself and showing that it is
possible to fulfill the commitments made in Agenda 2030 development .
The meeting was attended by Rene Mauricio Valdes, resident coordinator of
the UN System in Argentina and Patricia Holzman, head of the Coordination
Unit of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of the
Nation, among other officials.
