BRITISH SCIENTIST PETER RATCLIFFE SPOKE AT THE C3

It was dedicated to the discovery and science in general with the presence
of the public.
Wednesday June 5, 2019
In the Cultural Center C3 Science, Director of Clinical Research Research
Center Francis Crick Institute, and Target Discovery Institute at the
University of Oxford in the UK and winner of the Albert Lasker 2016, Peter
Ratcliffe award, gave a lecture the public entitled "Elucidating the
pathways sensitive to oxygen in humans: implications for biology and
medicine."
Scientific addressed their input about the discovery of the role of oxygen
detection process underlying the regulation of erythropoietin production in
human and animal cells to direct a wide range of homeostatic responses to
hypoxia.

During his visit Ratcliffe met with Government Secretary for Science,
Technology and Productive Innovation, Lino Barañao, who was accompanied by
the National Director of Cooperation and Institutional Integration, Mariano
Jordan yel Director of "Trust in Science" GSK ISRO Gloger.
"We are bringing the highlights for giving lectures that often inspire,
especially young people, in new directions in scientific research
scientists. Furthermore, this initiative strengthens tripartite cooperation
between GSK, Francis Crick Institute and the Ministry of Science, which
promotes basic research inspired by use. We are promoting the advancement
of knowledge in innovation in the area of health, "said Barañao.
Peter Ratcliffe conference takes place under the memorandum of
understanding signed in 2018 between GSK and the Government Secretariat of
Science, Technology and Innovation, which aims to train together members of
the local scientific community way. From this agreement, researchers at the
international level conferences held in areas of general science, medicine
and technology to drive innovation and knowledge sharing.
About Trust in ScienceCon's commitment to promoting high-quality scientific
research, laboratory GSK created the "Trust in Science" initiative to
support science in Latin America. Since 2011, with the Secretary of State
for Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of the Nation signed an
agreement public-private unique and innovative collaboration that involves
co-financing of scientific projects between the private sector and the
state.
About Peter RatcliffeSe he formed as a nephrologist in hospitals of the
University of Oxford. After specialized clinical training, he became
interested in the regulation of hematopoietic growth factor erythropoietin,
which is produced by the kidneys in response to reduced availability of
oxygen in the blood. This work led to the unexpected discovery that the
oxygen detection process underlying the regulation of erythropoietin
production runs widely in human and animal cells to direct a wide range of
homeostatic responses to hipoxia.En laboratory continued elucidating the
mechanism "oxygen detection" by further hydroxylation at the translation of
specific amino acid residues within the key transcription factor, HIF
(Inducible factor Hypoxia) and showed that this process is catalyzed by a
series of "oxygen sensors". Dioxygenase 2-oxoglutarate dependent.
Dr. Ratcliffe has received numerous awards for this work, including the
Gairdner International Award of Canada and the Lasker Award for Basic
Biomedical Sciences. He was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society
in 2002 and was knighted for services to medicine in 2014. He was professor
and head of the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford
in 2004-2016. In May 2016, he was appointed Director of Clinical Research
at the Francis Crick Institute in London, and held a position at Oxford as
Director of Target Discovery Institute and member of the Ludwig Institute
for Cancer Research.
