ENVIRONMENT PRESENTED THE NATIONAL STRATEGY AGAINST TOXICS USE BAITS

The Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation by
the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of Mendoza and Bioandina
Argentina Foundation presented the National Strategy Against Using Baits
Toxics within the framework of a joint work to preserve the condor, bird
flagship and keystone species in the Andean ecosystem balance.
On behalf of the Ministry of Environment of the Nation, leading Sergio
Bergman, were present Mariela Chervin, Interjurisdiccional and Inter
undersecretary, and Catherine Caillet-Bois, Director of Environmental
Education. "We are in Mendoza, at the launch of this strategy, we work from
our Secretariat together with the Bioandina Foundation, with the provincial
Ministry of Environment and with each of the 14 provinces with Condor
distribution in our country. We are inaugurating a sample participatory
awareness, along with a workshop with local stakeholders where we aim to
build the content of the strategy and action protocol in cases of
poisoning, "he explained Chervin regarding this initiative preservation and
conservation.
The sample above is a scientific, cultural and educational exhibition on
the Andean Condor Conservation Program to be held in the Museum of
Education of Mendoza, as part of an awareness campaign aimed at rejecting

The National Strategy Against Toxics Use Baits is aimed at developing a
best practice guide on caring for the local fauna and part of the
participatory development of the protagónicas institutions involved in this
problem. The planned actions are based on five fundamental pillars:
education campaigns, surveys of rural populations, training workshops,
delivery of emergency kits and toxicology studies.

Meanwhile, tomorrow a training session on the Andean condor and the
problematic use of toxic baits will be made. In this context, Luis Jacome,
the Bioandina Foundation, will present the Andean Condor Conservation
Program, which includes the rehabilitation of specimens of this species and
its subsequent release into the environment naturally and address the main
threats affecting the animal, in particular the negative impact suffers
from the use of toxic baits.
In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Environment Mendoza will
talk about the "case Los Molles" in relation to the discovery of 34 dead
poisoning condors in the town of Malargüe Mendoza in January 2018.
