YERBA MATE CONSUMPTION MAINTAINS ITS POSITIVE TREND
According to figures provided by the National Institute of Yerba Mate.

The Secretariat of Agribusiness Government reports that yerba mate
consumption continued during the month of May the positive numbers incurred
from the start of the year.
The Report of the herbalist sector, prepared by the National Institute of
Yerba Mate for the fifth month this year (INYM) reports that during May
Argentines consumed 24,950,000 kilos of processed yerba mate, a total for
the January - May 1 domestic consumption of 114.03 million kilos.
The figures show that since the beginning of this year yerba mate keeps the
momentum of the record set last year. During May sales increased by 6.1%
(the industry shipped 1.44 million kilos over yerba mate in April). This
percentage has an improving trend if it compares year period from January -
May 2018 versus 2019, since there is an increase in consumption of 6.8%
recorded; ie an increase of 7.33 million kilos in sales of processed yerba
mate.
As for exports, the statistics also remain positive. During the month of
May shipments Argentina yerba matte to various markets totaled 4.74 million
kilos, which cumulatively for the first five months of the year reached
14.70 million kilos. In this chapter the relevant fact is that, beyond the
fluctuations of all products exported, shipments grow yerba mate month and
steadily.
It is recalled that during the 2018 Argentina mate was exported to 41
countries, closing with a record of 43 million kilos. The main destination
of exports of yerba mate is still Syria (last year reached 80%), followed
by Chile (10, 4%), Lebanon, France and the United States.
Regards harvest, affidavits reflect the movement observed in the production
area. During the month of May they entered driers 125.50 million kilos of
green leaf, while the accumulated figure for the first five months of 2019
reveals that the entry of green leaf drying reaches 374, 90 million kilos.
