"Siga usted, maestro. Vaya y salga campeón", le dijo el inglés Peter Collins al argentino Juan Manuel Fangio en la carrera de Monza, el 2 de septiembre de 1956. Ese gesto de grandeza de su compañero de equipo le posibilitó, hace 64 años, al Chueco conseguir su cuarta corona en la Fórmula 1, su tercera de forma consecutiva y la primera con la escudería Ferrari.
En aquellos tiempos, los pilotos de una misma marca podían cederse el vehículo según las necesidades del equipo y teniendo en cuenta lo que estaba en juego para cada competidor. Así, Fangio sumó un nuevo capítulo de oro en su carrera luego de las conquistas de 1951 (con Alfa Romeo), 1954 y 1955 (estas dos últimas, con Mercedes Benz).
Fangio había abandonado minutos antes con su coche por el desgaste de sus neumáticos, pero gracias la generosidad de su compañero logró terminar segundo en aquél Gran Premio de Italia. Ese, sería su único título con esa marca dado que tras la conquista se alejó por diferencias con el dueño de la escudería, Don Enzo Ferrari.
En esa temporada, Fangio sumó 30 puntos producto de tres victorias (Argentina, Inglaterra y Alemania), dos segundos puestos (Mónaco e Italia) y un cuarto lugar en Francia. Y sumó una nueva estrella a una carrera que lo colocó en la cúspide el automovilismo argentino para siempre.
