MACRI REAFFIRMED THE COMMITMENT TO CONTINUE WORKING TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN FOREVER

President Mauricio Macri attended this afternoon the launch of the
initiative against femicide Spotlight Argentina and said the government
will continue to work with the goal of eradicating "forever" violence
against women and moving towards "reducing gaps and inequalities in each
field where you are there ". Macri said that "we are proud to launch in our
country" this initiative is driven jointly by the United Nations and the
European Union and stressed that Spotlight means "bring light" on "the main
violation of human rights XXI century". "Violence against women will we
face together, and I have no doubt that we are moving, and most
importantly, we are moving forward and no reverse gear," the President
speaking at the presentation of the program during a ceremony held
Argentina in the Hall of CCK. The event also was attended by the first
lady, Juliana Awada; Minister of Health and Social Development, Carolina
Stanley; Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, and the governor of the province of
Buenos Aires, María Eugenia Vidal. Also they attended by the head of the
National Institute for Women, Fabiana Túñez, the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo
Morales, and the deputy governor of Salta, Miguel Angel Isa, among other
authorities. "I want to thank the European Union and the United Nations
system by this decision to bring the initiative to our country, a decision
that also represents a recognition of our progress, challenges and
commitments to end violence against women," said President. He added that
today "thanks to the work of the United Nations know that one of every
three women is a victim of physical or sexual violence at least once in
their lives, and in our country every 32 hours a woman dies victim of
femicide". "And as we know this, we know that this is a reality that has to
change, and in that sense we are working. So for two years and half
launched the plan for preventing and eradicating gender violence," he
recalled. "But it is not just that women can get out of this dangerous
situation. It is end violence forever and that we need to start with
education we give our children," he said. Macri said that "the revolution
of women is one of the pillars of this century and is one of our greatest
challenges as a society". He stressed the need to "redouble the commitment
to work" for equality "in our schools, our jobs, on the street, in
everything we do." "We all have to give the example because we are talking
about a cross-cutting issue that affects the entire society, and we do not
want, nor can we not going to look to the side," he added. He argued
that "we need to move together toward a profound cultural change, a change
that requires us to act to reduce gaps and inequalities in each area where
these exist." He said that goal "launched the Plan for Equal Opportunities
and Rights, which is a roadmap to order all the actions that we were
driving and to promote new initiatives with a gender perspective". Macri
said that "we also urge an ambitious legislative agenda," which included
the enactment of Brisa and Micaela laws, which meant "a way of responding
to victims, especially when the State was not in time to protect them". The
Spotlight program selected five Latin American countries to carry out its
instrumentation: Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.
With an investment of 4.4 million, the program aims main objective, through
joint work with the Argentine government, prevent, treat and punish
violence against women and girls by focusing on femicide, its manifestation
more extreme. In turn, promotes the participation of civil society, for
which 10 percent of the budget to a competitive fund for projects promoted
by NGOs will be assigned.
