UPDATING ANALYSIS OF MRLS OF PESTICIDES IN FOOD

Senasa participated in the 51st Meeting of the Committee on Pesticide
Residues Codex held in Macao, China. Published on Wednesday April 17, 2019.
Buenos Aires - With the participation of the National Health Service and
Food Quality (Senasa) took place from 8 to 13 April, the 51st Session of
the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues ( CCPR) in the Macao Special
Administrative Region, China. There updating the ceilings of these residues
allowed in agrifood production was analyzed. The Committee is responsible
for establishing maximum limits for pesticide residues in certain foods in
international trade. In addition, prepare priority lists of pesticides for
evaluation by the Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) organizations
of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World
Health Organization (WHO). This time, the Committee discussed topics such
as evaluation of acute probabilistic dietary exposure to pesticides review
of the equations of IESTI (acute exposure) and development of guidelines
for compounds of low concern in public health could be exempted from
establishment of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs). JMPR participation in an
international joint assessment of a novel compound and management supported
compounds was also treated. In addition "was raised within the themes of
the treaties agenda the importance of closer cooperation between the CCPR
and the Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods," said the
representative of the National Plant Protection Senasa, Daniel Mazzarella,
who represented our country at the meeting. The Senasa stressed the
importance of "participating in such forums, where the presence of
representatives of all member countries of the Committee facilitates the
exchange of knowledge and opinions about updating the maximum residue
limits." The meeting decided to continue assessing the need for revision of
the IESTI equation groups preformed work and try their findings at the next
meeting, for which established schedules and priority lists for the
assessment of different pesticides by the expert group JMPR FAO /
WHO . "the IESTI formula is used to calculate acute intake for substances
that may pose risks for short-term consumption, generally for a meal or for
a day, and is particularly relevant for those plant products that consume a
piece, "Mazzarella said. During the meeting also discussed projects and
draft maximum residue levels of pesticides in food and feed; the draft and
draft revision of the Classification of food and feed; and a paper on
biopesticide was discussed, among other topics. The Committee is also
concerned to consider methods of sampling and analysis for the
determination of pesticide residues in food and feed, taking into account
other related safety containing pesticide residues and setting maximum
limits for environmental and industrial contaminants issues .
