HACIENDA OBTAINED FUNDING TO IMPROVE ROUTE 82 IN MENDOZA

The Ministry of Finance's Office obtained funding from the Inter-American
Development Bank (IDB) for $ 50 million for a series of works to improve
road infrastructure and tourism in the Provincial Route 82, in the province
of Mendoza. Will work to reduce the average travel time, the rate of road
accidents and the cost of operations of cargo transportation and tourism
which is the main north-south road corridor in western Mendoza metropolitan
area. The project involves expanding the existing roadway to turn it into
urban highway two lanes and rehabilitation of the tourist corridor between
urban and suburban area and the towns of Cacheuta and Potrerillos in the
mountain area. The improvements will benefit 26 700 users who each day pass
and will represent further progress in bi-oceanic corridor of National
Route 7, which links the Atlantic to the Pacific through the Cristo
Redentor. In addition, it will contribute to the tourism competitiveness of
Cacheuta area through infrastructure interventions, services and
strengthening the capacity of territorial management within contract period
of five years. The direct beneficiaries will be 870. 000 inhabitants of
Mendoza, as well as the town of Chacras de Coria, Vistalba, gates and
Cacheuta. The credit operation has the endorsement sovereign nation and,
while the IDB will provide 62.5 percent of the total project cost estimated
at 80 million, the province will fund the remaining 37.5 percent.
