PEÑA MET IN BEIJING WITH CHINESE VICE PREMIER
Tuesday June 25, 2019
Argentina and the PRC agreed in Beijing to ratify the ties of cooperation
and continued progress in mechanisms to increase trade and cultural
exchange, within the framework of a common strategic vision that
consolidated the president Mauricio Macri and Xi Jinping.
That was reflected in a meeting the chief of Cabinet, Marcos Peña, held
with Chinese Vice Minister Hu Chunhua, in Zhongnanhai, seat of government
of that country.
The meeting was a continuation of his visit to Argentina Hu made 20 last
March, when he was received by President Macri in the Olivos residence.
The meeting also attended by the Ambassador of Argentina in China, Diego
Guelar.
Peña and Hu discussed the political and economic international context and
agreed on the need to continue identifying the best ways to optimize the
growth of bilateral trade, investment and tourism.
They highlighted recent advances in agriculture and opening up the Chinese
market to exports from Argentina meat through the subscription of various
protocols and phytosanitary agreements.
Both sides highlighted the forthcoming establishment of the Bureau of
Argentine-China Dialogue and Business Forum, scheduled for September 16
this year in the city of Buenos Aires.
In addition, they talked about cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear
energy between Argentina and China.
In this context, they noted the progress in trade for the acquisition of a
nuclear power plant with Chinese technology.
Moreover, they highlighted the Argentina-China Cultural Year 2022 to 2023,
on which occasion marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Speaking to an international environment, Peña said his visit is taking
place "within the framework of a strategic partnership" between the two
countries "which has strengthened a lot in these three years and average
product of friendship built between President Macri and President Xi ".
He noted that, on that basis, there is "a permanent agenda" and highlighted
the "very strong" progress in food exports to the Asian giant, especially
with regard to meats and recently fine fruit.
He stressed, in this regard, confidence that Argentina has awakened the
Chinese authorities on food quality, evidenced in recognizing the SENASA to
preacreditar Argentine exports of those products to that country.
"A very strong dynamism and broad in terms of market access opening is
seen," said Peña, citing bilateral talks exports to incorporate more soy
products.
As for the Bureau of Argentine-China Dialogue and Business Forum, Peña said
he will not be limited only to the economic aspect and infrastructure, but
the cultural and social level to be "in-depth exchanges" and include the
fields of tourism and educational services.
To cooperation on energy issues, Peña said that "it is a pillar in the
strategic relationship" that unites both nations and ranging from
hydroelectric projects in the south to other plots in the north.
He said that "in this context there is an intention to make progress" in
the construction of a fourth nuclear power plant with Chinese technology.
Tomorrow, Peña will visit the headquarters of the Academy of Government of
China and later moved to the Foreign Ministry.
There, the Chief of Staff, who will be accompanied by Secretary of
Strategic Affairs, Fulvio Pompeo, will participate in a working lunch with
Deputy Foreign Minister Qin Gang.
At night, the coordinating minister will leave for Osaka, where Macri will
accompany the president during the sessions and the program of activities
of the summit of the G20 member countries on Friday and Saturday will be
held in the Japanese city.
