Asimismo se llevó a cabo una ceremonia homenaje en la Plaza de Armas del Edificio Libertad en conmemoración al Almirante Guillermo Brown y se celebró el 5° centenario del viaje de circunnavegación alrededor del mundo por parte de la Armada Española. La misma fue presidida por el Secretario General de la Armada a cargo, Contralmirante Diego Eduardo Suárez del Solar, acompañado por el Comandante del buque escuela "Juan Sebastián de Elcano", Capitán de Navío Santiago Colsa Trueba. Además, las autoridades del buque escuela "Juan Sebastián de Elcano" hicieron entrega de una ofrenda floral que fue colocada a los pies del busto del Gran Almirante. El Capitán Colsa Trueba destacó: "El homenaje al Almirante Brown tiene pleno significado para nosotros, para los miembros de la Armada Española, ya que hace hincapié en la estrecha relación y vínculo que existe entre las Armadas de España y de Argentina. España y Argentina son dos naciones hermanadas por compartir historia, lengua, cultura y por pertenecer a esa gran comunidad de países iberoamericanos". El buque escuela fue construido en 1927 especialmente para ser el lugar de instrucción de los futuros guardiamarinas de la Armada Española. Tiene cuatro mástiles bautizados Blanca, Almansa, Asturias y Nautilus, nombres de cuatro buques escuela que lo precedieron. Recibió el nombre en honor al explorador español Juan Sebastián Elcano, capitán de la expedición, tras la muerte de Fernando de Magallanes, que completó la primera vuelta al mundo en 1522.
